Originally, the line ended “Tourette’s Syndrome,” but many people with Tourette’s were insulted at Bart trying to fake it. (15 years later, that became the plot of a “South Park” episode that was better received by comparison.) So for the FOX network repeat, the line was changed to “rabies” (although Bart muttering “Tourette’s Syndrome” could still be heard a little later on), and that’s the version on the DVD, as well as the version seen on weekday afternoon repeats on Global in Canada.

In syndication, they used a different approach: Krabappel’s “Tourette’s Syndrome” line was left intact, but Bart faking it was cut.

(This rumour may have started as a result of this episode’s first airing being cut, including the blackboard, to make room for the premiere of Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” music video; “hamsters cannot fly” was the result of someone joking about a full-length opening being used in Canada that didn’t actually happen. The “I will not fake rabies” blackboard did not premiere until April 2, 1992, between “Colonel Homer” and “Black Widower”.)
